August 5th. What were you doing a year ago today?
Headed to the beach? Complaining about the heat? The rain? Planing a trip? Back to school shopping?
A year ago today, my friend Rob, was fighting for his life. He had just had a stroke. It would be more accurate to say, a year ago today, a guy I knew had a stroke. We hadn’t become friends yet.
It may sound odd, even cruel, but I am thankful for his stroke. I don’t think we would have become friends if it wasn’t for the stroke and recovery. At our age we all can get so comfortable with our lives. We go to work, we come back home. Maybe we do something during the week for fun. Maybe not. We stay within our comfort zone. Until life throw you a curve ball.
Since his stroke, we have become great friends. Enjoying dinners with our families, weekends away, trips up to the lake. He taught me to fly fish! I am not sure if I contribute much to this friendship, but I am thankful for his.
Glad you are doing great Rob!
