As a gymnastics coach, business man, part-time stand up comic and educator I spend a great deal of my life writing. Some of the things I write just need a home. Some will be shared with other projects that I have going on.
I am dedicating this Blog to my brother Jeff who recently lost his battle with cancer. Jeff was a more than a writer. He was a thinker, a traveler and we both have kept epic journals although mine pale in comparison to his.
Vacilando–Vacilando is a Spanish term for the act of wandering when the experience of travel is more important than reaching the specific destination.
John Steinbeck (in Travels With Charley: In Search of America, 1962) wrote:
“ In Spanish there is a word for which I can’t find a counterword in English. It is the verb vacilar, present participle vacilando. It does not mean vacillating at all. If one is vacilando, he is going somewhere, but does not greatly care whether or not he gets there, although he has direction.”
– I am traveling through Siberia to Mongolia, if I use 2 or 4 months getting there, I don’t care.
– Oh, you’re such a vacilando!
Jeff was always a vacilando. The destination was never as important at the journey.
It breaks my heart because my journey with Jeff was not done.
We had other adventures to go on.
It is now up to others to accompany him on that journey.
I am hoping my friends share their thoughts, photos and art with me here.
